Canada offers protection to individuals who are fleeing persecution, violence, or serious human rights violations in their home countries. If you are seeking asylum in Canada, you may apply for refugee status through one of the following pathways:
1. Applying at a Port of Entry If you arrive at a Canadian airport, seaport, or land border, you can make a refugee claim to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Officers will conduct an initial screening to determine your eligibility to apply.
2. Applying from Within Canada

3. Sponsorship as a Refugee

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for refugee protection in Canada, you must prove that you are a Convention Refugee or a Person in Need of Protection
Convention Refugee You are outside your home country and cannot return due to fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
Person in Need of Protection:
You are in Canada and cannot return to your home country due to risks of torture, cruel treatment, or life-threatening situations.
